The exhibition “Our day and night inhabitants” took place in open air gallery at the city center of Velenje. The project has been very extensive as it took almost seven years to take all the photographs of some typical species that can be seen on a walk through our city, as well as in all big cities of Slovenia. I decided to show some photos on my website to present at least some of the wildlife that can be seen in the cities. This is the proof that we do not need to go deep into the forest to admire the diversity of wildlife. It will be enough that on our walk through the city we just stop for a moment, look around and listen to the nature.
For slightly unusual approach to photography I decided because I wanted to present to the audience a different perspective of wildlife – close look. Almost all the photos were taken with the wide angle lenses from direct nearby. A lot of time, preparation, foresight, patience, planning and excellent knowledge the habits of each species and some modern technology is necessary to take each photo. Sometimes I need to take into the field up to 70 kg of equipment to take photos or just observe wildlife.
With the rapid expansion of cities around the world, many animals lost their much-needed habitat for their survival in wilderness. Nature seems very flexible to us, but we have to look carefully at these ambassadors of wilderness. They remind us we all belong to the same world.
The project was supported and financed by the Muncipality of Velenje.
